About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join a team building AI-powered products and services at scale. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and operating backend systems that support modern AI applications used across multiple business domains.
In this role, you will work with cutting-edge AI technologies, large language models (LLMs), cloud infrastructure, and scalable backend architectures. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, AI engineers, and software developers to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance services.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable REST APIs and microservices.
- Build backend services for AI-powered applications and intelligent workflows.
- Integrate with multiple LLM providers and implement fallback and routing mechanisms.
- Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and AI agent workflows.
- Design efficient data models, including support for vector embeddings and AI-related data.
- Implement authentication, authorization, caching, monitoring, and logging solutions.
- Write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive automated testing using TDD principles.
- Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability in production environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver AI solutions from concept to deployment.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in relevant fields
Required Qualifications
\- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline
\- 5+ years of backend development experience with scalable web applications and APIs (Ideally, 7+ years of experience)
\- Strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and Redis technologies
\- Experience with Java
\- Experience with Kubernetes
\- Strong English communication skills and experience with collaborative development workflows
Preferred Qualifications
\- Experience with multiple LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Vertex AI) and frameworks like LangChain
\- Knowledge of vector databases, embedding management, and cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS)
\- Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and AI/ML model deployment practices
\- Knowledge and understanding of distributed systems and security best practices
Languages- English: Fluent
- Japanese: Optional / a plus

Salary: ¥9M – ¥12M JPY per year (Senior Level)
Location: Hybrid (4 days in the office, 1 day remote)
Office Location: Tokyo, Japan
Working Hours: Flexible schedule with core hours from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
