What does your team look like? At Studyportals, the Big Data & Business Intelligence Team is responsible for delivering quality data for the rest of the company. You will be joining an existing team of four members – a Big Data Team Lead reporting to the CTO, two Data Analytics Engineers, and a BI Analyst. All very smart people! Big Data is part of the Product Engineering department that is about 40 in size. As the Data Engineer you will be at the strong foundation of the data-value pyramid. You will make sure all our data is always complete and up to date so that your colleagues can process them and distill insights from them. At the end this will enable data-informed decisions across the business.
What are your responsibilities and tasks? - You design, build and take ownership of robust and scalable ETL pipelines with data quality in mind. You manage the data with AWS systems like EMR, Redshift, zero-ETL, and Glue
- You operate and continuously improve our modern data platform. You maintain and upgrade tools like Airflow, dbt, Redshift and Grafana.
- You ensure reliability and high data quality in production. You keep an eye on pipeline health and cloud services, assess incidents confidently.
- You actively shape our cloud infrastructure and architecture. You contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code and confidently challenge architectural decisions for sustainable solutions.
- You optimize performance and cost efficiency across our data stack and proactively think about scalability as our data and business grow.
- You empower colleagues with great data. You support stakeholders, provide trusted second opinions to the whole team, and ensure our data assets are secure and documented.
RequirementsWhat are we are looking for? - 4 or more years of hands-on Data Engineering experience in production cloud environments
- Strong Python (PySpark) and SQL skills with a focus on clean, maintainable code
- Experience with modern data stack tools such as Airflow, Fivetran, dbt, and AWS
- Proven track record building and operating robust, scalable ETL pipelines
- Strong understanding of data modeling, incremental loading and data quality practices
- Having experience with streaming processing is a plus
- Experience optimizing warehouse performance and managing cloud costs
- Analytical mindset with a focus on root-cause thinking and sustainable solutions
- Ownership mentality with the confidence to challenge architectural decisions
